The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) is one of the independent expert scientific committees established to advise the European Commission on scientific matters. The SCCS addresses questions concerning the safety (i.e. impact on human health) of non-food consumer products such as cosmetics, toys, clothing and textiles, personal care products etc. and consumer services such as tattooing.
Members are scientific and medical experts from the member states and are subject to periodic election.
It's output is in the form of opinions in response to specific questions or mandates but it may also issue guidelines on matters related to its area of competence.
