Research* shows more than three quarters (76%) of women admit they don't carry out an Allergy Alert Test before they colour their hair for a special occasion, and so have no way of knowing if they could face an unexpected reaction to the hair colorant they use.

Limited understanding of how allergy works could be driving this, because many people don't know that allergies build-up over time, so they don't realise how important it is to carry out an Allergy Alert Test every time they colour their hair, 48 hours in advance, even if they have used a product before.

To help people plan ahead, whether that's at home or in the salon, President of the National Hairdressers' Federation (NHF) and celebrity hair stylist, Mark Coray, has joined forces with the CTPA to front Colour With Confidence, our campaign to encourage everyone to perform an Allergy Alert Test every time they colour their hair.

As part of the campaign, which is a unique collaboration between the CTPA and the NHF, which represents UK salon owners, Mark has shared some of his quick glamour style tips in the how-to video guides to help us get party-prepared...

Some of the industry's key stylists are backing the Colour With Confidence Campaign. Here are their top tips to help you get party-prepared and Colour With Confidence...

World-famous stylist Richard Ward is resident hairdresser on ITV's Lorraine and is king of the TV makeover, having worked on cult shows such as Trinny & Susannah, Extreme Makeover and Coleen's Real Women. Richard and his salon team also styled The Duchess of Cambridge's hair and bridal party for the Royal Wedding in 2011.

Whether you're colouring your hair in the salon or at home, remember you must carry out an Allergy Alert Test 48 hours in advance, so talk to your stylist or follow the instructions on the pack at home."

Jo Hansford is one of the leading hair colourists in the UK, renowned for her colour correction work. Her Mayfair salon has an extensive international client base and is favoured by many Royals, top celebrities and high profile individuals including Elizabeth Hurley, Georgia Jagger and Erin O'Connor.

"When thinking about a new shade of hair colour, you need to consider several factors such as skin tone and eye colour, as well as the condition of the hair and the level of maintenance required. It is also essential to know what products have been used before on the client to prevent any adverse reactions.
