Antioxidant

Substances which can help the body eliminate or fight the effects of 'free radical' chemicals

'Free radicals' are highly reactive chemicals which can react with DNA and other crucial building blocks of our cells and skin, which causes damage.  Antioxidants are chemicals which neutralise the 'free radicals'.  They can also be used to prevent oxidation; for example, oxidation can cause products to degrade because oxygen in the atmosphere reacts with the ingredients within the formulation, especially lipids.  Oxidation of lipids can lead to rancidity and unpleasant smells.
