Elastin

The material that makes up the elastic connective fibres underneath the top layer of skin that give resilience and elasticity to the skin.

Elastin is a protein that is present in many connective tissues in the body. It supports blood vessels, lungs and skin. Elastin production decreases with age and the elastin network can be damaged by sun exposure. These changes lead to reduced skin elasticity and visible signs of skin ageing.
