The technique of performing experiments in a controlled environment using a living being, e.g. human volunteer testing.
‘In vivo’ refers to testing done on living humans (and historically, animals — though this is now banned for cosmetics in the UK and EU). In cosmetics, in vivo testing usually means applying a product to volunteers’ skin to check for things like irritation, effectiveness, or how well a sunscreen works.
It’s often used to confirm results from earlier lab tests and to support product claims.
